Ripped Bodices and Ripped Paper

I went down a huge Nora Roberts rabbit hole reading her romance trilogies when I was younger and my friends did not see me that semester. Romance books are such a great escape from real life troubles and so much fun. Many literary snobs consider the romance genre to be the bottom feeders of the book world due to being so formulaic, but who cares? Things I always ask myself when reading:

1. Are you having fun when reading your book once you are five chapters in?

2. Does your book take your mind off of your troubles? Stir your imagination? Or make you feel the author based the main character on yourself and the author spied on you in real life?

If the answer is yes to any of the above, then continue reading.

My public library has HUGE packed shelves for the romance genre and we even have book clubs just for this category!  So what does romance books have to do with art?

Well, I am addicted and totally nerding out making paper mache birds and other things. It is a whirlwind romance with ripped paper instead of ripped bodices and those everlasting kisses are me finishing a piece as the character experiencing a conflict, but eventually feeling incredibly pleased with the outcome.

I just can't work fast enough to keep up with all my ideas and you know what? I am ok with that.  I am still going to continue working at my own pace.

I was asked to participate in many shows for next year, but I turned them down many because I want to create at my own pace. I want to stay within the boundaries that makes my soul happy.  I don't want to be in a hurry, and I certainly do not want to create anything that doesn't meet my own art standards.  No is a powerful word in real life and in romance books.

Just like everything else in your life, your pieces and own projects will arrive in due time just like feeling closure at the end of a novel. Character one wins the heart of character two and they run into the sunset and the music continues to play. Then you happily start another book or project again.

May you find what sets your own heart on fire.

Love, your favorite goober
