“We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” - Aristotle

The inspiration for this piece came from a few places. First, steadfast is my chosen vocabulary word for the year.  I have this word written on a rock that sits in a prominent place on my windowsill to remind me to focus on the next best step.

The second place is watching friends and family go through major changes in their life such as facing a major health concern or losing a spouse and ultimately finding their way out of darkness through the grief process. How do you process all of this?

I know everyone is different, but I find processing through writing and painting.  My husband finds it through playing guitar. Bob was a widow when we met and honestly, it was one of the things that attracted me most to him. I found him on the other side of darkness and this is where he found his depth.

When you paint, you normally start with the darkest colors first then work your way up to the light.  I was working on clouds this morning and at the very edges of the billows is where the gold shines bright as the sun rises.  Maybe my head is in the clouds most of the time, but I still see promise in the skies. And people.

This mixed media bird altar was created on deep set panel board using professional artist quality paint, hand painted collage paper, a variety of textiles, paper mache, wood, and Preciosa crystals. The bottom has a magnificent tassel that I created from a variety of yarn.

Hanging hardware has already been attached to the back and this piece is ready to hang on your wall.
