Moving from fear and falling into trust

Today I am dropping off artwork for an event that I applied to a while back. I am excited to announce that "The Labyrinth" was accepted into the "Rise" Show being sponsored by WiVLA - Women in the Visual and Literary Arts in Houston, Texas from July 17th towards the end of August. You can visit the entire exhibition at Sabine Street Studios in Houston, Texas at 1907 Sabine St.
Keeping the theme of "Rise" in mind, this is the piece of prose I wrote to go with it that also went through many iterations:
The Labyrinth
I am taking the risk.
Crossing battlegrounds-
Facing stop signs,
and waiting hours.
I am on the high watch
as I navigate the labyrinth
and fly away home.

As all you are experiencing the same, I have had to wean myself from falling into fear and moving towards trust that the universe will right itself. If you look at this flying bird closely, you will find key words in her tail feathers.
If you have been following me, you know that I have been navigating my mom's journey with dementia for six years. She is now in memory care. This, along with all the doom and gloom in the news of our ever-changing world has made me look for a solid rock to stand on.
I have power of attorney over my mom and being the sole person in charge of all her decisions has been a challenge. You want to do the right thing. You want to do what is right for your mother. And in the middle of all this you want to be able to have some sort of life for yourself. This challenge has brought up low-lying fears within me and many questions. But I tell myself, this is not my first rodeo. And that I can ride this horse and figure out when to release and pull the reigns. Going through this experience has also changed my artwork in unexpected ways. I have had so many people show up to save me in unexpected and wonderful ways. Thank you for catching me when I fall! Art and writing heal too.
Love and light to all of you.
Getting Ready for an Online Event

Today is the before an online show and what I do on this day is mount all of my pieces of prose to the backs of my creations. You could say it is the chef’s kiss of getting ready for an online show. I lay everything out on my dining room table and also look over each piece to see if I missed a spot for varnish and make sure that all hanging hardware is secure and intact.
This is a small collection, but each piece is packed with meaning and symbolism about living a life of harmony during difficult times and where to find a solid rock to stand on when the tide wants to take you away.
Welcome to my Blog!

Hello and welcome to my blog! I send out a monthly newsletter with small bits of information about my newest pieces that are available, yet I rarely get into the nitty gritty details about my artistic process.
I have used the same procedure since the late 1990s that I developed for myself after reading "The Artist Way" by Julie Cameron. I devoured this book from cover to cover especially since I enjoy not one, but two forms of creativity as an outlet.
I do not teach classes online, nor do I give tutorials so I felt this was the best way to give back to the creative community. Feel free to comment or reach out if you have any questions about what I post. Namaste!
